Natural Ametrine Crystal, Bolivia
Natural Ametrine Crystal, Bolivia

"Ametrine helps develop the ability to take action and overcome one’s fears.  It is an excellent stone for those who are indecisive or unable to act from fear of making a ‘wrong’ decision.  It supports one in overcoming the fear of success and helps eradicate patterns of self sabotage." - Venusrox

The most valued source of Ametrine comes from the Anahi Mine, La Gaiba District, Sandoval Province, Santa Cruz Department, Bolivia. The mine has been known fro hundreds of years, located in the heart of the rainforest zone near the Pantanal wetlands on the Bolivia-Brazil border.

In 2001 the miners lost the Ametrine vein in the complex of mine shafts and tunnels. This led to a prolonged dry-spell, with some gem rough production but very few high-quality, collectable pieces. Finally in 2009 the Anahi miners hit a new vein that produced fantastic quality Ametrine for the first time in decades. The Venusrox crystals are from the first pick of the finds and some of the finest found.

Ametrine is a variety of quartz that contains both amethyst and citrine sectors in the same crystal. The Ametrine crystals from this mine are wonderfully unique and a natural combination of rich, deep purple amethyst with golden yellow citrine. Both amethyst and citrine are colored by small amounts of iron (approx. 40 parts per million). Amethyst colour develops when iron-containing quartz is exposed to ionizing radiation.

The Ametrine at the Anahi Mine occurs in veins in a dolomitic limestone. Crystals of Bolivian Ametrine range from 10 cm to 30 cm in length, with diameters ranging from 4 to 12 cm. The crystals almost always have a rough exterior, and are lacking the smooth sides and prism termination characteristic of quartz crystals.  On close examination, the “rough” sides are made up of alternating vertical bands of shiny well-crystallized areas and irregular but very smooth un-crystallised sections.

Overall these beautiful Ametrines are both rare and miraculous, making them a remarkable natural phenomena to have at Venusrox.
