Smoky Quartz is a powerful grounding stone, which also offers psychic protection from negative energies and establish a healthy flow of energy throughout one’s body and being. A grey/brown/black variety of quartz which is a silicon dioxide mineral. It owes its colour to the presence of aluminium traces within the quartz and from natural irradiation. Smoky Quartz is found in many locations, but largely in Brazil and Madagascar. Another locality to note is Switzerland, where exquisite, highly transparent, lustrous pieces can be found which are highly collectable and on an energy level, high vibrational. Smoky Quartz is the national gem of Scotland, where it is known as Cairngorm Quartz after the Cairngorm Mountains where it is found. For centuries it has adorned traditional Highland dress and was considered a sacred stone.
