AGATE
Grounding | Stability | Strength
Agate helps to awaken and discover one’s inherent natural talents. It is a strong grounding stone which encourages stability and strength, it has a gentle, wise, old energy that is comforting and reassuring that all will be ok.
Agate is a name given to numerous varieties of banded Chalcedony, which is a mineral of the quartz group. It was given its name from the Achates River in Sicilly where the stone was discovered along its shore line by the Greek Philosopher and naturalist, Theophrastus.
Agate occurs in many colours caused by impurities and which show as bands within the Agate. Often displaying exquisite patterns and colours, it is easy to see why Agates have been used in jewellery for thousands of years. Most Agates form as nodules in volcanic rock. Many Agates are hollow with a crystal-lined cavity or geode of druzy quartz or Amethyst.
Agate exhibits a hardness of 6.5/7 on the Mohs’ Scale.
